Evil Masquerade - Henrik Flyman

Tra una ventina di giorni uscirà il quinto atteso album degli Evil Masquerade. Per questa occasione abbiamo scambiato due parole con il fondatore e mente del gruppo Henrik Flyman.

Ciao Henrik e bentornato su Heavy-Metal.it. Il 21 Maggio prossimo verrà pubblicato il quinto album degli Evil masquerade intitolato PENTAGRAM. Cosa ci possiamo aspettare da quest’album?

Ciao Stefano. E’ bello ritornare quì. Si, il 21 Maggio è il gran giorno. Puoi aspettarti un album più oscuro, più pesante e più vicino alle sonorità hard rock e metal degli anni ’70 e ’80. Ogni cosa è più diretta; i ragazzi hanno fatto un lavoro fantastico rendendo giustizia al lavoro. Apollo non ha mai cantato così bene.

Come mai hai scelto PENTAGRAM come titolo? Non penso si riferisca solo al fatto che è il quinto album.

Hai ragione. I testi sono più spiritualiche mai e c’è il tema del pentagramma che viene rappresentato in tutto il disco. Inoltre sembra si adatti molto bene alla musica dato che abbiamo tagliato ogni cosa che non fosse essenziale per le canzoni. Abbiamo preso il cuore di cosa era importante, che riflette i 5 punti del pentagramma.

Quali sono le principali differenze rispetto gli album precedenti?

E’ più primitivo e d’effetto.. Ha un chiaro punto di vista e l’insieme di canzoni è probabilmente il migliore di sempre. Le registrazioni sono state fatte in presa diretta e abbiamo utilizzato le sovraincisioni al minimo. Abbiamo preferito una produzione più dinamica e con della strumentazione in studio datata. E considerato che non avevamo fretta di far uscire l’album abbiamo avuto già la possibilità di suonare dal vivo alcuni brani, e suonano veramente bene.

Ci sarà un singolo video di supporto ?

Si e sarà pronto per la prossima settimana per il singolo A SILHOUETTE che abbiamo appena pubblicato.

Il precedente album era FADE TO BLACK (Dissolvenza verso l’oscurità) e il nuovo album è solo in due colori: nero e bianco. Ora siete totalmente oscuri?

Non saprei…

Ci sarà un tour di supporto all’album, magari anche in Italia?

Siamo aperti ad andare ovunque e sicuramente ci piacerebbe venire in Italia. Abbiamo bisogno di un promoter locale che ci contatti. I primi spettacoli sono già programmati in Svezia e Danimarca.

Qualche parola sulla canzone LET’sUNITE IN ROCK per l’organizzazione caritatevole METAL FOR CANCER

Il fondatore di Metal For Cancer, Richard Ofsoski, mi chiede se volevo donare una canzone degli Evil Masquerade al progetto. Ho pensato che fosse un buon progetto ma ero indaffarato con svariati affari legali riguardanti il gruppo e non volevo aggiungere altri potenziali conflitti. Tuttavia ho invece offerto di scrivere un nuovo brano che poteva essere suonato da una formazione di stelle. Ha pensato fosse una grande idea ed è partito il progetto. E’ stato divertente includere talentuosi musicisti di gruppi come Sonata Arctica, Therion, Megadeth, TNT, Krux e svariati altri. Naturalmente ci fanno parte anche i ragazzi degli Evil Masquerade. Questa canzone è la prima produzione che ho fatto per la mia etichetta, la Dark Minstrel Music. La canzone è molto orientata verso la musica di DIO e tutti i musicisti coinvolti hanno donato i loro cuori e anime nel progetto. Tutti i proventi vengono donati all’ Australian Cancer Research Foundation. Vorrei raccomandare di aiutare per eliminare una cosa che ci colpisce tutti. Abbiamo bisogno di fermare questa disgrazia una volta per tutte. Ha già ucciso troppe brave persone e nostri cari. E quando supporti il progetto riceverai una copia di questo inno metal. Hi Henrik and welcome back on Heavy-Metal.it On May 21st will be released the fifth Evil Masquerade album called PENTAGRAM. What we can expect from that album?
Hi Stefano. It’s nice to be back. Yes, May 21 is the big day. You can expect darker, heavier and closer to the roots of the 70-80’s hard rock and metal. Everything is much more direct. The guys have done a fantastic job bringing the songs to justice. Apollo has never sounded this good.

Why did you chose PENTAGRAM as album title? I think it’s not only because it’s the fifth album.
You’re right. The lyrics are more spiritualistic than before and there’s a pentagram theme throughout the album with recurrent references to the pentagram. It also seemed to fit the music perfectly since we have cut everything away that weren’t essential for the songs. We have only kept the core of what’s important, which very much reflects the 5 cornerstones of the pentagram.

What are the main differences respect the previous albums?
It’s more primal and more effective. It has a very clear focus and the collective set of songs are probably the best ever. The recordings are very much alive in the studio and we have kept overdubs to a minimum. We have gone for a more dynamic production and older equipment in the studio. And since we didn’t hurry putting the album out we also had a chance to try several songs live already which feels really good.

Will the album be supported with a video-single?
Yes, it’s ready next week and it will be for the single track “A Silhouette” that we have just released.

The previous album was FADE TO BLACK, and the new one is only in two colors: black and white. Now totally Black?
Probably… hahaha.

Are you the Dark Minstrel, Henrik?
I wouldn’t know.

Will be a tour to support the new album? Chance to see the band live in Italy?
We are open to go anywhere and we would certainly love to come to Italy. Get a local promoter to contact us. The first shows are already booked in Sweden and Denmark.

And just few words about the song LET’S UNITE IN ROCK for the charity organization METAL FOR CANCER.
The founder of Metal For Cancer, Richard Ofsoski asked me if I wanted to donate an Evil Masquerade song to the project. I thought it was a good project, but I was in the middle of tons of legal stuff concerning the band and didn’t want to add more possible conflicts. Therefore I offered to write a new song instead that could be performed by an all-star lineup. He thought it was a great idea, and so the project was launched. It was fun to include so many talented guys from bands such as Sonata Arctica, Therion, Megadeth, TNT, Krux and several others. Of course my band mates from Evil Masquerade are aboard as well. This song, “Let’s Unite in Rock”, was actually the first production I did on my own label Dark Minstrel Music. The song is very DIO-ish and everyone involved preforms from the bottom of their hearts and souls. All income is donated to the Australian Cancer Research Foundation. I would really recommend you to spend a couple of bucks to support something that affects us all. We need to put a stop to this disease once and for all.
