SLAYER's KERRY KING: Heavy Metal 'Doesn't Alienate Children Against Parents Or Any Age Group'

Maniacs Japan conducted an interview with SLAYER guitarist Kerry King at this year’s Loud Park festival, which took place in early October at the Saitama Super Arena in Tokyo, Japan. You can now watch the chat below.

On SLAYER‘s music transcending generations:

“I think metal, in general, is a thing that doesn’t alienate children against parents or any age group; I think it’s more of a family kind of thing. To me, SLAYER is almost becoming a lifestyle beyond just the metal thing; it’s SLAYER, you know.”

On being in SLAYER for more than three decades:

“My job’s great. I love my job, I love my life. I love being able to come to Japan and just entertain the shit out of people. So, you know, I love it.”

On SLAYER‘s latest album, “Repentless”, being received so well:

“I found out… We were in Germany the day that the first-week [chart results] came back, and we came in at No. 1 in Germany, and the Nuclear Blast guys were so excited; they were more excited than me. Worldwide, it was overall No. 2, which is the most absurd thing I’ve ever heard of. I don’t set out to make up music for it to be that well appreciated. I’m extremely happy that it is, but I don’t expect it. I’m very happy for Nuclear Blast that they got such a well-received record on their first album by us.”

“Repentless” was released on September 11 via Nuclear Blast. The follow-up to 2009’s critically acclaimed, Grammy-nominated “World Painted Blood” was produced by Terry Date, who has previously worked with PANTERA, DEFTONES and SOUNDGARDEN. The artwork was created by Brazilian artist Marcelo Vasco in collaboration with the band’s Tom Araya and Kerry King.
