ARCH ENEMY Guitarist MICHAEL AMOTT Talks New Making Of New SPIRITUAL BEGGARS Album - "The Process Was Very Spontaneous"

BraveWords scribe Carl Begai spoke exclusively with Arch Enemy guitarist Michael Amott about the forthcoming Spiritual Beggars album, which is due for an early 2016 release through InsideOut / Century Media.

Amott: “We got together on the short breaks Arch Enemy had twice; me and Per (Wiberg/keyboards) had a writing session in my kitchen with acoustic guitars and bashed out a lot of ideas, and we got together again as a group when we’d accumulated enough material. It was a few days before the recording, so we didn’t really rehearse that much.”

“The way we set it up in the studio was so that everyone was playing together. We had five days booked with everybody there, and that was the trickiest part; everyone working out their schedules so we could work together. It was live off the floor, with all of us in a half circle around the drums. We had eye contact and talked our way through the songs, we’d play a song through once and then hit the red. It was pretty intense because we didn’t really make any demos beforehand. We didn’t really know what we were going to end up with so the process was very spontaneous.”

Lineup:

Michael Amott (Arch Enemy) – guitars
Apollo Papathanasio (Majestic) – vocals
Ludwig Witt (Grand Magus) – drums
Sharlee D’Angelo (Arch Enemy) – bass guitar
Per Wiberg (Candlemass) – keyboard, vocals
