BATTLE BEAST Guitarist On Upcoming Album: 'Musically, It's The Same, But It's Much More'

Guitarist Joona Björkroth of Finnish metallers BATTLE BEAST has confirmed that the band will enter the studio later this year to begin recording its fifth album for a 2019 release. Speaking to Infernal TV, Joona said (see video below): “We do the summer festivals, and then we hit the studio. I have written maybe 14 songs already. The other guys have written several songs — I have heard at least six or seven. So that’s what we’re gonna do — we’re gonna produce them and make them good and make a whole album. And it’s gonna take [the rest of] this year. After the summer festivals, that’s our job for a few months.”

Regarding the sound of the new BATTLE BEAST material, Joona said: “[2017’s] ‘Bringer Of Pain’ has the BATTLE BEAST sound, and I can tell you that the next album’s gonna have the same sound, but, of course, it’s not gonna be the same. The style is the same, the players are the same, the singer is the same, so, of course, it’s gonna sound like BATTLE BEAST, but, yeah, musically, it’s the same, but it’s much more… It’s not the same, of course, because it’s not the same songs, but this was my second album writing for BATTLE BEAST. ‘Bringer Of Pain’ was harder, because it was my first which I did with the band; this is far easier to write songs, because I know now what I’m doing. But, of course, it’s gonna be this clash of songs, because we write, of course, much more songs that’s gonna be on the album. So let’s see how the whole album package is gonna be like.”

“Bringer Of Pain” was released in February 2017 via Nuclear Blast Records. The ten-track disc was recorded and produced at JKB Studios by keyboardist Janne Björkroth, was mixed by Björkroth alongside Viktor Gullichsen and Mikko Karmila, and was mastered by Mika Jussila at Finnvox Studios. The cover artwork was crafted by Jan Yrlund.

“Bringer Of Pain” was BATTLE BEAST‘s first album to feature Joona Björkroth, who joined the band in 2015.

BATTLE BEAST in February 2015 parted ways with lead guitarist and main songwriter Anton Kabanen due to “insurmountable disagreements” with the other members of the band.
