KMSU 89.7 FM‘s “Midwest Beatdown” conducted an interview with BUTCHER BABIES frontwomen Heidi Shepherd and Carla Harvey before the band’s November 12 concert at the Myth in Maplewood, Minnesota. You can now listen to the chat in three parts below.

Speaking about how the members of BUTCHER BABIES have evolved as people, Carla said: “I honestly think that in the beginning, there are a lot of pictures of me [looking serious] on stage, because that’s how my mood was at the time. I think we’ve changed a lot as people in the process of this band and we’ve all become a lot happier, because we’re doing what we love. So I’d say there are a lot more pictures of us smiling now, because we are happier — we’re doing what we love on a daily basis. In the beginning, I can’t speak for everybody, but me personally, I was in a different place in my life, so it wasn’t like I was trying to be serious ‘metal’ — I think that was the state of my mind at the time. And now there’s a lot more smiles.”

Added Heidi: “I mean, when you go on stage, it’s your therapy — for each of us, when we step out on that stage. So whether it be, you’ve had an angry day and you get out there and you thrash it out… Like me the other day, I was in one of the worst moods I have had in years — I was stomping around the bus, I was having a really bad day — and we went on and played on stage and I walked away [feeling], ‘I needed that.’ [Laughs] I straight-up said that: ‘I needed a good show like that. I feel so much better. Life can move on.’ But even… Or you have something to celebrate — you go out there and you celebrate on stage. So for us, it’s our therapy and we love doing it.”

BUTCHER BABIES‘ third album, “Lilith”, was released on October 27 via Century Media. The follow-up to 2015’s “Take It Like A Man” was produced by Steve Evetts (THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN, SEPULTURA, SUICIDE SILENCE) and marks the band’s recording debut with new drummer, Chase Brickenden, who replaced Chris Warner in 2016.
