Candlemass guitarist Lasrs Johansson has launched his new project FAT.MO.MAC.
A press release states: “FAT.MO.MAC is hitting the scene with a bluesy grind straight out of one of the most influential eras in music history. With influences like Jimi Hendrix, Ritchie Blackmore, Jeff Beck, and Leslie West pressed firmly between the pick and slide of the strings, FAT.MO.MAC’s debut album is anything but freshman work.”
“I had a couple of ideas that would take me and my friends back to where it all started for me when it comes to influences and inspiration,” Lars said of starting FAT.MO.MAC.
Lars was never satisfied with sitting still, so once he put this FAT.MO.MAC debut album together in his head, he called on magic from other specialties in the music biz to help him bring his dream to fruition. Mats Leve´n (Candlemass, Yngwie Malmsteen, Therion, Krux, Amaseffer, Gus), Klas Gunnerfeldt (Psycosomatic Cowboys, Primate Life, Backwood Preachers, Ruby Dogs, Ginger Ale), Tobbe Moen (Gotham City, Oz, Creozoth, Silent Call), Stefan Gunnarsson (Janne Schaffer, Raj Montana Band, Sandra Cross, David Carlson, Enorma Groov, Bliss, LA project, Bill Champlin), along with the now-deceased Roger E. came together, not even sure what instruments they’d play in the beginning of the project, to create these ripping riffs with Lars.
“I got hold of excellent musicians in different fields, friends that probably never would have been on the same record if it wasn´t for this idea of mine.”
Roger E. cranked out three tracks on the album before dying of a heart attack, an event that ripped Lars apart, but that pushed him to finish to immortalize the talent that was his long-time guitar friend.
Tracks like “Walk Alone” get that groove guitar screaming, while “Kickback” slows, yet doesn’t lose any power, the tempo a bit. The upbeat blues rhythm to “Gear Shifter” keeps your head bobbing and your toes tapping, Stevie Ray-style. And “Memories Is All There Is” is the perfect hangout song, when you’re chilling with friends.
The debut, self-titled album is due for release on April 28th.
