On March 20th, Twisted Sister /Adrenaline Mob drummer A.J. Pero passed away at the age of 55 from what has been reported as a massive heart attack. The following night, Adrenaline Mob went ahead with their scheduled show supporting Drowning Pool at the Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, NJ. Former Adrenaline Mob drummer Mike Portnoy and Twisted Sister guitarist J.J. French performed “You Can’t Stop Rock N’ Roll” with the band on the night; fan-filmed video can be viewed below.
Adrenaline Mob frontman Russell Allen has posted the following message online in the wake of drummer A.J. Pero’s tragic passing:
“I lost a dear friend today. A man who I looked up to. A man who’s humility and sincere companion for his fellow man was truly inspiring. Oh, and did I mention he was one of the greatest rock drummers of all time?
His accomplishments on stage are legendary and it was an honor to share the stage with him every night. But it was his love for his family and friends that I connected with. We spent many nights talking about our families and how much we missed them. His work ethic was unmatched, he would bust his ass playing a show and afterwards help the crew load the trailer with the ALL the gear. That’s the kind of guy he was. Always willing to help and always putting others before himself.
I will miss his quick witted sense of humor and those late night talks we’d share while we watched the world go by. God speed AJ Pero! RIP my brother.
My thoughts and prayers are with his family in the moment. He’s pictured here with my son Jack and my daughter Ava. They loved him.
The members of Adrenaline Mob collectively posted the following message:
“We write this with tears in our eyes and our hearts broken to pieces. Our beloved brother AJ Pero peacefully passed away in his sleep this morning on the bus. We are in complete shock and our hearts and prayers go out to his family. It has been nothing short of an honor to have shared the stage with such a beautiful soul & legend! We love you AJ, rest in peace.”
