ERIC BRITTINGHAM Says He Is 'Collateral Damage' In CINDERELLA Dispute

CINDERELLA bassist Eric Brittingham was interviewed by rock journalist Mitch Lafon for a recent edition of the “One On One With Mitch Lafon” podcast (Facebook page). You can now listen to the chat using the Spreaker widget below. A couple of excerpts follow (transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET).

On whether it’s difficult for him to accept the fact that CINDERELLA is no longer an actively recording and touring band:

Eric: “It’s a little frustrating, but then I have to step back and look at other bands from that era that still put out records that people don’t buy and don’t wanna hear any of the material from when they play live. And these bands put out good albums, but their fans just… they like the old hits from the ’80s. So, it’s really, like, well, what’s worse — not doing it at all, or putting your time and putting all the world into it but not sell or be accepted? So, I don’t know. I do miss playing with them. I don’t know if we will do any shows. There’s no immediate plans to do anything with CINDERELLA — most of it ’cause there’s some internal problems that are not getting resolved. And in the meantime, Tom [Keifer, CINDERELLA frontman], you know, he’s pursuing his solo career, and he’s enjoying that, and now I have a gig with Bret [Michaels, POISON frontman], and I’m really enjoying that. So, musically and creatively — I speak for myself — I’m happy, Tom‘s happy. And unless things change within the CINDERELLA camp, I don’t foresee anything changing anytime soon as far as us doing gigs…

“Every band has the same kind of problems; there’s wobbly wheels in every band. So we’re just trying to get everybody on the same page, and, like I said, unless that changes, CINDERELLA is on kind of permanent hiatus.”

On whether he would be in favor of CINDERELLA continuing with some new members:

Eric: “I’m not comfortable with that at all. I mean, we could. There’s tons of players, tons of bass players, tons of guitar players and drummers that could fit right in, but it just still isn’t… it isn’t the same. I can see if it’s impossible [for the original lineup to still be together], [as] in WARRANT‘s case, where Jani Lane‘s passed. They have Robert Mason, and he does a fantastic job and he has re-energized that band, and that makes sense. But unless it’s that situation, I don’t… Unless, like I said, somebody passes, then, yeah, you can continue on. But as long as the members are still available, it should be the original band, in my opinion.”

On whether he is all upset with, or mad at, Tom for pursuing a solo career and not getting the four CINDERELLA guys back together:

Eric: “No, no. It’s not his fault at all. Like I said, I don’t blame him for doing what he’s doing. I mean, he’s an artist and he has his songs he wants to get out, and this is his outlet to do it, and I wish him all the best, actually. I mean, it does kind of suck [because it feels like] I’m collateral damage here. [Laughs] But now I’m in a good situation, and you make the best of it.”

Although CINDERELLA hasn’t released a new studio album since 1994’s “Still Climbing”, the band started playing sporadic shows again in 2010 but has been largely inactive for the last few years while Keifer focuses on his solo career.
