Metal Wani recently conducted an interview with former QUEENSRŸCHE and current OPERATION: MINDCRIME singer Geoff Tate. You can now listen to the chat below. A couple of excerpts follow (transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET).

On the recent deaths of Lemmy and David Bowie, among others:

Geoff: “Yeah, it’s quite a shock, really. You know, it’s another example of how life isn’t concrete; it’s constantly changing. And you have to keep yourself open to go with the changes. You think these people will be around forever, and you don’t actually fully, perhaps, realize the effect that their art has had on you until they’re gone. And also I think you question your own mortality, you question what you’re doing, where you’re going, why you’re doing it; that kind of thing.”

On whether it’s a challenge coming up with new material after all these years:

Geoff: “No, not really. You just have to keep yourself open to new ideas and not get bewildered at life. I think that’s a thing that a lot of older people go through — that bewilderment of life, where you just get burnt out, tired of beating your head against the wall in some area of your life. And that’s when the bitterness can set in. And you definitely don’t wanna end your days as a bitter person.”

Joining Tate in OPERATION: MINDCRIME‘s current touring lineup are guitarists Kelly Gray (QUEENSRŸCHE) and Scott Moughton, drummer Scott Mercado (CANDLEBOX), bassist Tim Fernley (THE VOODOOS) and keyboardist Randy Gane (MYTH).

“The Key”, the first album of an ambitious trilogy from OPERATION: MINDCRIME, sold around 2,500 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD was made available last September via Frontiers Music Srl.
