LoudTV.net recently conducted an interview with FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH bassist Chris Kael. You can now watch the chat below. A couple of excerpts follow (transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET).

On FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH‘s recent onstage “meltdown” in Memphis:

“You’ve got five brothers out on the road, and all five brothers are trying to vie to be the ‘big dog.’ I mean, we’re all very confident in ourselves, but we know the DEATH PUNCH works with those five very different personalities. So, yeah, shit happens. I certainly don’t feel good about how things went down. As brothers, you’re gonna fight behind the scenes a lot, but that one kind of spilled out on the stage. I’m a very positive person, and negative shit like that pisses me off. So… Enough said on that one. [Laughs]”

On whether FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH would continue if one member were to leave or get fired:

“Well, I mean, fuck… I think right now we have the strongest lineup that DEATH PUNCH has ever had. We all work really well together. We are all adept at addressing stuff when it needs to be addressed and avoiding stuff when you can get away with it. So, personality wise, I like to think that this lineup is gonna last quite some time. I mean, we finished the final puzzle with me, ’cause I joined four years ago, so no more changes. I was the last one.”

On working with producer Kevin Churko again on FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH‘s forthcoming album, “Got Your Six”:

“He’s pretty much like the sixth member of DEATH PUNCH. He’s one of those guys… We are all very alpha male, so he’s perfect at rounding all of us up and putting together the best of what we do.”

On FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH‘s songwriting approach on “Got Your Six”:

“We killed ourselves on the last one [2013’s ‘The Wrong Side Of Heaven And The Righteous Side Of Hell’]; that was a hard record, just in the sense of… It wasn’t so hard in writing, ’cause we write all the time, so it just happened to be during that process, during that cycle, we had plenty of songs. Trying to put those out… And we didn’t wanna give away any of them, or lose any of them, so we put the double album. But this time, just a single album… The mentality of ‘Got Your Six’, we wanted a hard-rocking, kind of, metal album. We’ve had some great success with songs like ‘Coming Down’, ‘Remember Everything’… kind of lighter fare. And we’re great at doing that. But this album cycle, we were kind of in a pissed off place, and it shows on the record. So, good 4/4 stomps. If I had to tell somebody what it was like, going into it, we wanted to kind of keep it like ‘Lift Me Up’ and ‘Under And Over It’. That was the vibe we were going for. There’s one really heavy song. I can’t remember… I mention this song every time I do an interview, and I need to learn the damn name of it, ’cause I remember the chorus. But, when you’re listening to it, the chorus goes, ‘Click clack, reload.’ It’s my new favorite DEATH PUNCH song. Heavy!”

“Got Your Six” will be released on August 28 through Prospect Park in North America and Eleven Seven Music outside North America.

FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH will head out on a co-headlining fall tour with PAPA ROACH. The trek kicks off on September 4 in Lexington, Kentucky, winding down on October 9 in Glen Falls, New York. Also along will be IN THIS MOMENT and FROM ASHES TO NEW.

The two headliners actively involved their fans in the routing of the tour by giving them the opportunity to request the tour come to their city via a “demand campaign.” Some 1.5 million people responded and made their choices known.
