Meltdown of the WRIF radio station in Detroit, Michigan recently conducted an interview with former QUEENSRŸCHE and current OPERATION: MINDCRIME frontman Geoff Tate. You can now listen to the chat using the audio player below.
Speaking about how the music consumption and music piracy habits of consumers have affected bands like OPERATION: MINDCRIME, Tate said: “I think it’s tough these days to be involved with the arts at all and make a living — especially a musician. Because you might have a lot of talent, you might be incredibly gifted at what you do, but can you sell that? It’s a tougher world to sell to these days than I think it was 30, 40 years ago.”
In a separate interview with Glide Magazine, Tate was asked if he thought a his fans still had the patience to listen to a record top to bottom, especially a concept record that takes them through a story. “I think we do,” he responded. “I think that people who really enjoy that type of journey take that time to do that, ’cause that’s what they enjoy doing. I know I do. I like to put on an album and just sit and listen to the whole thing and kind of lose myself in it. And I’m sure a lot of people still feel that way about albums. Other people don’t, but that’s what makes the world so interesting; [it’s] different strokes for different folks.”
Frontiers Music Srl will release “Resurrection”, the new album from OPERATION: MINDCRIME, on September 23.
“Resurrection” is the second part of Tate‘s musical trilogy. One year after the release of the debut album in September 2015, OPERATION: MINDCRIME continues in the spirit of the historic album of the same name, spawning concepts as grand as the music, and intertwining the intensity of the former QUEENSRŸCHE vocalist’s iconic past with the provocative, progressive mindset that has made him one of music’s most resolute forces and frontmen.
