In a recent interview with Cameron Buchholtz of the Oklahoma City, Oklahoma radio station Rock 100.5 The KATT, HALESTORM frontwoman Lzzy Hale spoke about how the touring cycle for the band’s 2018 album, “Vicious”, has seen an influx of females attending the group’s live shows.
“It’s been awesome,” said Lzzy (see video below). “The biggest changes that we’ve seen is that there’s been this elevation in excitement within our core fanbase, which we weren’t expecting. We were expecting the normal, ‘Oh yeah. Cool. We love it.’ For some reason, this album has hit a little deeper than our previous ones with a lot of the people that follow us and that connect with what it is that we represent. That’s been really awesome. Also, there’s been an incredible flip this year. It used to be 60/40 male/female. Now it’s completely flipped. If you want to meet a crazy rock chick, come to our show. That is where they’re all going now.”
When asked what precipitated the change in crowd makeup, Lzzy said: “I think it’s a lot of little things. I think it’s a sign of the times. At this point in time in the world, I think girls, they want to rage. Also, I think just as a constant process, girls are less discouraged now by people like me, that if people that are my age are having kids, they’re being more encouraging to their kids about following what they want to do and listen to music they want to listen to. We’re seeing a lot of that, too. It’s different in the pop world. With our crowd and the rock crowds and the girls, it’s not a complete selfie fest. It is in a weird way, but they’re singing along with the selfie stuff, which is awesome. It’s not just there for casual entertainment. They’re literally there because they connect with something and they primally need to be there. That’s been pretty fun.”
“Vicious” came out in July 2018 via Atlantic. It was recorded at Nashville, Tennessee’s Rock Falcon studio with producer Nick Raskulinecz (RUSH, ALICE IN CHAINS, DEFTONES).
The group’s 19-date summer tour with ALICE COOPER kicked off July 17 in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
