British heavy metal legends IRON MAIDEN were awarded the prestigious O2 Silver Clef by Nordoff Robbins last night (Friday, July 3) in London in recognition of “outstanding contribution to U.K. music.” Previous winners include THE ROLLING STONES, David Bowie, Eric Clapton, PINK FLOYD, GENESIS and QUEEN; last year’s Silver Clef winner was Jimmy Page. The very first Silver Clef was presented to THE WHO, by Twiggy, on June 29, 1976. In its 40-year history, the Awards have raised more than £8.5 million to fund Nordoff Robbins‘s groundbreaking work with music therapy.

Speaking of their win, IRON MAIDEN said: “Nordoff Robbins is an exceptional charity and their dedication to changing people’s lives through music therapy is something we all very much support. We’re extremely proud to receive the O2 Silver Clef Award and be part of the 40th-anniversary event celebrating this wonderful achievement.”

Several photos from last night’s event can be seen below.

IRON MAIDEN‘s 16th studio album, “The Book Of Souls”, will be released globally on September 4 through Parlophone Records (Sanctuary Copyrights/BMG in the U.S.A.). It was recorded in Paris with the band’s longtime producer Kevin “Caveman” Shirley in late 2014, with the finishing touches added earlier this year. However, the band decided to delay its release so that vocalist Bruce Dickinson, who was recently given the all-clear from a tumor, would have time to recuperate sufficiently to join in the preparations for the album’s launch.
