Drummer Jason Bonham – the son of Led Zeppelin drum legend John Bonham – recently spoke with Vanyaland about his career and the possibility of a Zeppelin reunion, the proposals for which have been shot down repeatedly by vocalist Robert Plant. Following is an excerpt from the interview.
Q: You’ve played with the guys, what, three times now publicly? What made the O2 so perfect?
Bonham: “What made the O2 so perfect was the preparation. Every other time we really just got together in an afternoon and gone over a couple songs and that was it. For the O2, we blocked out rehearsals for six weeks; Monday through Friday four hours a day. A lot of it was talking as well about how we wanted it to be. We did the first three songs so it was like clockwork, like a first turn crash in a car race. If we can get past the first turn scot-free, then the rest of the gig will be great. That was very important to all of us to be comfortable on those three songs — and it worked. It really did, and it shows in the show.”
Q: In your heart of hearts, do you think you’ll ever play with the guys again?
Bonham: “In my heart of hearts… I do believe we will play together again. It remains to be seen if it will be in public or privately, but I do think we will play again.”

The John Bonham Memorial Fund recently launched a Crowdfunding campaign to raise £50,000 in just 56 days for a bronze memorial in the centre of the town Evesham, England, where the drummer was born and grew up, reports EveshamJournal.co.uk.
“Having, until now, focused our efforts on local fundraising, this campaign is intended to reach Led Zeppelin and music fans around the world,” said Ros Sidaway.
“We’ve added some attractive rewards to entice people to pledge amounts varying from just £10 up to £2,500. Everyone who pledges by 5 PM on January 6th will have their name added to a memorial scroll to be buried in a time capsule beneath the memorial, as well as being listed on a thank you page on the johnbonhammmemorialfund.com website.”
The official launch of the crowdfunding campaign took place on Sunday, November 22nd, which also marked the 46th anniversary of Led Zeppelin’s hit song “Whole Lotta Love”. The memorial fund group is hoping that rock fans worldwide will now show a whole lotta love for its campaign.
