According to the Albany Democrat-Herald, JOURNEY drummer Deen Castronovo gave a $10,000 check to a high school in Albany, Oregon on Wednesday (April 15) to help replace band equipment lost in a fire.

The destroyed building stored the school’s sound equipment, band and choir instruments and more than 40 years worth of collected sheet music. The damage was estimated at well above $1 million.

Castronovo, who grew up in Salem, Oregon, and was a high school band member himself, said: “JOURNEY has given me a great platform to be able to help people and to give. I’ve been very fortunate. The least I can do is to give back.”

He added: “We’re so grateful, [my wife] Deidra and I are so grateful, to be able to give back to you guys, because I know it must be devastating. I know you lost a lot of equipment and there’s a lot of stuff that’s gone now.”

Other community members have stepped up to offer donating used instruments to the band members.

A 28-year-old Albany man, Zachary Burghart, was arrested and charged with arson in connection with the fire.
