MEGADETH will celebrate the 25th anniversary of its platinum-certified 1994 album “Youthanasia” by playing the record in its entirety on October 31 at the Fillmore Auditorium in Denver, Colorado.
Cyber Army presale will begin on Tuesday, June 4 at 8 a.m. MT. Tickets go on sale to the general public beginning Friday, June 7 at 10 a.m. MT.
MEGADETH‘s sixth album, “Youthanasia” was released on November 1, 1994 through Capitol Records. The single “Train Of Consequences” hit No. 29 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart while “À Tout Le Monde” reached No. 31.
In 2004, to celebrate the tenth anniversary of “Youthanasia”, MEGADETH released a remixed and remastered version of the album which included four bonus tracks: the previously unreleased “Millennium Of The Blind” and “Absolution” (an instrumental) and demos of “New World Order” and “À Tout Le Monde”.
In a 1995 interview with Deseret News, MEGADETH bassist David Ellefson stated about the making of “Youthanasia”: “We had most of the songs written three months before we headed into the studio. We took another three weeks to fine-tune the arrangements when we recorded the basic tracks. Then we got down to business.”
According to Ellefson, the success of MEGADETH‘s 1992 gold-certified album “Countdown To Extinction” did not put any more pressure than usual on him and his bandmates while recording “Youthanasia”.
“The success of ‘Countdown’ boosted our confidence more than anything,” Ellefson said. “‘Countdown’ was drastically different than the albums in the past. There were shorter songs and a more ‘verse, chorus, verse’ arrangements. We also teamed up with [producer] Max Norman, who showed us different ways to approach an album. In the end, ‘Countdown’ sold a lot of copies. So when we decided to start ‘Youth’, we approached the project in a similar way.”
In celebration of the 25th anniversary of YOUTHANASIA, we will be performing a special Halloween show playing the album in its entirety at the Fillmore Auditorium in Denver, CO on Oct 31.
