Road Recovery supporter James Hetfield of Metallica sits down for a discussion with Road Recovery to discuss a variety of issues and overcoming adversities like fear. In the clip below, Hetfield remembers as a kid on what made him afraid, and his thoughts on being a role model at age 50.
In the second video of the Up-Close series, James talks about seeking validation. How powerful is getting validation from other people? Is it important? James talks about how he has been seeking validation his whole life – whether it be from his family or fans. We seek validation because we want to people please or we want people to like us. James goes on to explain that while validation is powerful, it’s the unconditional love from his family that is sometimes the only validation he needs. Do you agree?
In the third video of the series, Hetfield talks about his rocky, shameful past. He has done things he is not proud of. Over time he has come to terms with it and continues to grow each day. Music has saved his life by giving him an outlet to write and express himself.
