MÖTLEY CRÜE's TOMMY LEE: 'Doing Solo Projects And Other Albums Has Been A Waste Of F**king Time'

The members of MÖTLEY CRÜE spoke to Yahoo! Music about their plans for after their “The Final Tour” wraps at the end of the year. Drummer Tommy Lee — who has recorded two solo albums, as well as two with his side band METHODS OF MAYHEM — said: “Now that I look back, doing solo projects and other albums has been a waste of fucking time. Yeah, they’re kind of fun, you get your ya-yas out, but the second you try to support something like that, the mothership calls and you gotta go. We’ve put a lot of passion and energy into some of those things and sometimes you go, ‘Hmm, for what?’ But once this thing ends, we’re probably going to get involved in all kinds of crazy stuff. And the doors are always open for us to work with whoever we want.”

Guitarist Mick Mars, who hopes to get involved in everything from film soundtracks and movie voiceovers to collaborations with other musicians, added: “All of us are completely free. I can go, ‘Hey, Tommy, c’mere. I got this stuff I’d like you to work on.'”

He continued: “Remember when THE BEATLES disbanded? They didn’t really disband and they did some of their best record because they went and they experimented with all of this cool stuff. We could do that, too. You never know? I’m not saying another CRÜE album will happen, but I’m not saying it couldn’t happen either.”

In a separate interview with the Huffington Post, MÖTLEY CRÜE singer Vince Neil said: “Here’s the thing about MÖTLEY: We’re not breaking up. Most people think we are, but MÖTLEY CRÜE will still function as MÖTLEY CRÜE. We’ll probably still be putting out music time to time for different things, but we’re just not touring anymore. I don’t think people really understand that. As for me, I have my solo band, I play tonight and tomorrow night and next weekend, I’ve been playing with them for years when MÖTLEY doesn’t play. I go out and have fun with them. I’ll probably put out an album right after MÖTLEY‘s done and continue with that, then I have the football team in Las Vegas and have all the adventures that I do. I’ll be keeping busy, but I’ll always still be doing music.”

MÖTLEY CRÜE‘s “The Final Tour” kicked off last year and will end New Year’s Eve at the Staples Center in Los Angeles after one more round of North American gigs. Because of higher ticket demand, some cities will see them twice.

When their upcoming retirement was announced last year, the CRÜE actually signed a legal contract saying that they could not go back on their agreement to cease touring.

To coincide with the announcement of the last show, the band released a new video, “All Bad Things”, which includes clips from throughout their career.

The 2014 leg of “The Final Tour” was one of last year’s top-grossing tours, selling close to a million tickets across 72 cities and grossing more than $45 million.

Dates for 2015 will include five shows in Japan, a tour of Australia and New Zealand, European festival shows, and summer shows in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.
