BREAKDOWN, TOKEN ENTRY, CRO-MAGS, ANTIDOTE and MAXIMUM PENALTY will play a free show on Saturday, July 23 from 1:30 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in the East Village’s Tompkins Square Park in New York City to raise awareness of the plight of legendary BAD BRAINS guitarist Gary “Dr. Know” Miller. Black N’ Blue Productions and “The New York Hardcore Chronicles” have joined forces to bring this very special event to the public. Attendees will be able to support Dr. Know‘s Go Fund Me campaign on-site at a station that will be accepting donations.

Dr. Know suffered cardiac arrest in early November, 2015. His condition quickly progressed to multiple organ failure, requiring he be put on life support for almost two weeks. At the time, his doctors gave him a five percent chance of survival, but by the power of PMA, love and family, he pulled through.

He spent nearly three months in the hospital until he was transferred to a medical rehabilitation facility where he is receiving the proper physical therapy and treatment he needs to recovery fully. Doc has been making incredible daily progress, and he and his loved ones are confident he will make a full recovery and continue to touch lives with his incredible music, kindness and positivity.

“It was a ‘no-brainer’ for NYHC to unite in support of Dr. Know, who is a pioneer of the hardcore music scene and community, not only in New York but also worldwide,” said John Joseph, lead singer of CRO-MAGS. “His talent and rawness as a musician combined with his enduring positivity has influenced and touched countless bands and fans for nearly 40 years. I am personally honored to be able to play this once-in-a-lifetime show.”

This campaign was initiated in an effort to raise money for Doc‘s medical expenses and the additional care that will be needed once he returns home. Doc did not have medical insurance at the time of his hospitalization, and the multiple medical bills have created an overwhelming financial strain that he and his family are not able to handle on their own. Since Doc has been unable to earn a living since early November, he also needs help with his living expenses until he can fully recover and get back to work.

All funds contributed to the campaign are directly deposited into a bank account created by a representative of the BAD BRAINS specifically for this purpose and are greatly appreciated by Doc and his family.

Dr. Know sincerely thanks all of you for the continued support and truly believes that all of your love and PMA has allowed him to recover so quickly, against all odds — please keep the PMA coming!” said Joseph “Cuz” Cammerata of Black N’ Blue Productions.
