Ricordo quando ho ascoltato il loro album di debutto datato 2000, e rimasi positivamente impressionato dalla carica distruttiva che permeava ogni canzone. Un concentrato di hard-core e atmosfere allucinanti degne dei migliori Crowbar, che non trovavano paragoni con nessun’altra band.
L’album successivo già tracciava alcune pecche in fase compositiva; una leggera virata verso sonorità più stoner a scapito di quelle più intransigenti, una soluzione non proprio soddisfacente che lasciava l’amaro in bocca.
Stesso discorso dicasi per questo“ How The Great Have Fallen”, però con un’aggravante. Le dieci tracce sono ben suonate, con la solita carica che li ha sempre contraddistinti ed hanno un sound che ben si unisce alla loro odierna proposta musicale. Tutto ciò, però, è legato da un comune denominatore: la noia. I soliti riffs di stampo stoner, la doppia voce violenta e monotona come non mai, dell’irruenza hard-core degli esordi nemmeno l’ombra (se non nella voce).
Con questo non voglio affermare che i Raging Speedhorn si siano messi a fare i Kyuss o i cloni degli Entombed; c’è grande impatto, e questo non si può negare, ma gli schemi sono noti e con poche variazioni. Chi ha amato il precedente “ We Will Be Dead Tomorrow “, avrà di che gioire. Canzoni come la title track, “Dead Man Walking” e “Fuck You Pay Me”, rispecchiano fedelmente quanto fatto in precedenza. Ma era lecito aspettarsi di più.
Non mi sento di aggiungere altro se non di essere stato travolto da una cocente delusione.. Un album potente, rabbioso e ben confezionato. TUTTO IL RESTO E’ NOIA.
