Led Zeppelin legend Robert Plant has joined the mega lineup for a Greenwich concert celebrating the 80th birthday of one of south east London’s greatest sons, reports NewsShopper.co.uk. Plant will play the Bill Wyman Birthday Gala, part of BluesFest, at IndigO2 on Friday, October 28th, joining the likes of Mick Hucknall, Mark Knopfler and Imelda May.
The Rolling Stones former bassist Wyman was born in Lewisham and grew up Sydenham before finding fame with the rock and roll band, which he left in 1993.
BluesFest is set to take over The O2, IndigO2 and Brooklyn Bowl from Friday, October 28th, to Sunday, October 30th, and also features performances from Mary J. Blige, Van Morrison, Jeff Beck, Bad Company and Richie Sambora.
BluesFest’s director Leo Green said: “This Bill Wyman concert is shaping up to be one of the gigs of the year. The addition of Robert Plant to an already monumental lineup is a clear indicator of the vast influence this incredible musician has had on the music world and we’re delighted that he’s chosen to celebrate this milestone birthday with us – who knows who else might turn up on the night to jump up on stage.”
