Today marks three years since the passing of Ronnie Montrose (Montrose, Gamma). His wife and widow Leighsa Montrose posted the following message last night:
“Tomorrow marks three years since Ronnie left us. I honestly could not tell you where that linear measure of time has gone. It feels as if he was just here. Without a doubt, every day he is in our hearts. And here at home, when we do something that reminds us of him we smile, knowing it’s only a reflection of the profound impact he had on our life. Ronnie made a point to say to me ‘we should never be sad and mourn, but rather celebrate a loved one whom passed’. Since tomorrow could not go by without him on our mind that is what we will be doing: savoring a favorite meal of his and going to some places he used to enjoy.
“As I was thinking of writing this on his page it occurred to me that it is all of you that keep him in your hearts. You do this by the things you write in social media, playing his music in your bands and through your speakers, and with all the amazingly heartfelt sentiments in letters we still receive. You all, each and every one of you, ‘never forget’ and continue to show him the kindest of props. I truly thank you more than words could ever say. He was one very special being indeed. But even more than my thanks I know he is smiling and sending you all ‘peace and hippie love’.
“In the spirit of remembering Ronnie I wanted to share this story. Ronnie was an empath. Perhaps he saw a little of himself in everyone. We could be anywhere and if he saw a person, as he called it, ‘having a hard time’, he would turn and say to me, ‘that’s somebody’s baby; we never truly know what someone may be going through’. He was just super sensitive and caring that way.
“Tomorrow as you think of Ronnie, I ask this: show compassion to someone, anyone. Your smile, call or kind word to a friend, family member or stranger, your ‘paying it forward’ may be the one thing that could bring them a bit of peace.”
