According to MyNewsLA.com, Friday, October 6 will be declared “Scorpions Day” in the city of Los Angeles in honor of the German hard rock veterans who amassed a string of Billboard chart toppers in the 1980s.
SCORPIONS will be honored by the Los Angeles City Council. They are being recognized for “fifty-two years of excellence in rock ‘n’ roll, including making records in Los Angeles, the entertainment capital of the world,” said City Councilman Jose Huizar, who authored the resolution to honor the band.
The group will accept the honor in person at the council meeting, which will be held at Van Nuys City Hall.
The resolution notes that the group has ties to L.A., where the band recorded three albums and has frequently performed over the years.
SCORPIONS were ranked No. 46 on VH1‘s “Greatest Artists Of Hard Rock” and their song “Rock You Like A Hurricane” landed at No. 18 on VH1‘s list of the “100 Greatest Hard Rock Songs”. Celebrated across the globe, the iconic rock act has sold more than a hundred million albums worldwide, and has received multiple honors, including a World Music Award, a postage stamp in Brazil, induction into the Hollywood RockWalk, Echo honors, and a Lower-Saxony State Prize.
SCORPIONS released their nineteenth studio album, “Return To Forever”, in 2015, the same year the band celebrated its fiftieth anniversary.
SCORPIONS kicked off their North American tour with MEGADETH on September 14 at Santander Arena in Reading, Pennsylvania. The sixteen-date trek, dubbed the “Crazy World Tour”, celebrates SCORPIONS‘ 1990 LP of the same name. Two of the SCORPIONS‘ best-known songs, “Winds Of Change” and “Send Me An Angel”, both appear on “Crazy World”.
SCORPIONS have just finished recording a couple of new songs for a forthcoming compilation album that will collect the most popular of their ballad-type material.
