STEPHEN PEARCY On BOBBY BLOTZER: 'You Can Sue Everybody You Want, It Doesn't Mean You're Gonna Win'

Currently based around the vocalist and fellow “classic-era” members Warren DeMartini and Juan Croucier with later-period RATT guitarist Carlos Cavazo (ex-QUIET RIOT), the group will make its first official return to the stage on February 11 at the Treasure Island Resort Casino in Welch, Minnesota.

A completely different version of RATT — led by drummer Bobby Blotzer and featuring a revolving door of members — has been hitting stages across the country since the fall of 2015.

Back in November, a California judge decided that the corporation WBS, Inc. — of which Blotzer and DeMartini were thought to be the sole shareholders — did not have ownership interest in the RATT marks and that the name and brand was still owned by the members who were part of the original RATT partnership agreement.

In addition to claiming to have expelled Blotzer from the partnership following the latest court ruling, Pearcy, DeMartini and Croucier said that Blotzer could now only refer to himself as a “former member of RATT,” as per the partnership agreement.

Speaking to “The Classic Metal Show”, Pearcy stated about the legal dispute with Blotzer: “You have a cancerous situation, and if you just pick a little of the cancer away, it doesn’t go away. Well, this time we cut it out. Because what happened is somebody was claiming to change the course of history, and it kind of started getting under our nerves.”

He continued: “You can sue everybody you want, it doesn’t mean you’re gonna win. But to change the course of history, and especially to disrespect Robbin [Crosby, late RATT guitarist] and what we’ve done… I mean, we’re the writers. But for somebody to go out there and just totally disrespect and claim that we’re history and that these other people are better than us…

“We know who’s who and who’s what, and we’re not the kind of people to go out there and spew out all this stuff. It’s not worth it. It’s child’s play.

“This isn’t the Hitler world of speaking [where] you tell the people enough and they believe it. Our audience is not stupid — they’ve been with us for years — so it’s kind of humiliating to them. But don’t take my music and take claim over it. We’re the ones who write it, and we’re the ones who sweated for it.

“A lot of things could have gotten a lot worse, and thank God we’re a little more patient — or I am — or there’d be a bunch of heads rolling.”

Pearcy added: “Unfortunately, success breeds excess, and then excess breeds… monster. [Laughs] And once again, like I say, it’s those who do nothing that tend to wanna come out and claim everything, when you’re the ones doing all the work, and that’s the worst thing — that’s the disrespect.”

Blotzer has filed a request for reconsideration, and a hearing has been scheduled for January 23 in a downtown Los Angeles federal courtroom.

Blotzer‘s lineup of RATT currently includes singer Josh Alan alongside guitarists Mitch Perry (TALAS, HEAVEN, STEELER, MSG, LITA FORD) and Stacey Blades (L.A. GUNS) and bassist Brad Lang (Y&T).
