According to the Los Angeles Times, legendary guitarist Steve Vai has sold home and recording studio in the Hollywood Hills for $1.5 million.
Vai, 55, purchased the 1,400-square-foot studio, called the Mothership Studio, and 3,981-square-foot home in 1987 for $330,000. It includes a live room, a booth, a microphone room, a control room, its own kitchen and a lounge area. The house features a den, family and living rooms, three bedrooms and 4½ bathrooms.
The house and studio had been previously listed for sale but most recently had been leased out.
The likes of Ozzy Osbourne, Eddie Van Halen, Larry Carlton, Steve Lukather, Slash and THE YARDBIRDS have all recorded in the studio, which “was a sanctuary for me,” Vai previously said. “There is no better location if you are interested in being near Hollywood but out of it.”
“The Beachwood/Franklin area has grown into a wonderfully funky artist community and the size and sound of this studio is the perfect storm for a home studio.
“Too many great artists have been though this studio to mention. All have found it to be charming.
“I recorded my biggest records there and they all retain the integrity of the sound of the room.”
