VIXEN Bassist Says Band Is Working On New Music: 'It's Gonna Be Rocking'

VIXEN‘s Share Ross has confirmed that the band is working on material for a new full-length album, tentatively due next year. The bassist spoke about VIXEN‘s recording plans during an interview with the “Music Mania” podcast. She said (hear audio below): “We have songs that we’re already working on. The only question is when it’s gonna happen, just because of geography more than anything else. We live really far from each other, and then just time. I’m a little bit busy, Lorraine‘s [Lewis, vocals] really busy, Britt‘s [guitarist Brittany Denaro] busy, Roxy‘s [Petrucci, drums] busy, so it’s just making it happen — just trying to find a way to make it happen. But we are definitely working on songs. In fact, I talked briefly with Lorraine today, and there’s a song that Roxy, Britt and I had worked on, and now Lorraine is working on it as well with Britt. And they’re gonna be going in and recording it — I don’t know — some time in the next couple of weeks, just to take it to the next step. And then they have some other stuff that they’re working on. There’s all these things that are being kicked around.”

As for the musical direction of the new VIXEN material, Share said: “I think it’s gonna be really fun, it’s gonna be really cool. It’s definitely gonna have major pieces of that classic VIXEN sound. We definitely want to honor our fans with that. As for the rest of it, it’s gonna be rocking.”

This past January, VIXEN recruited Lewis as its new lead singer following the departure of Janet Gardner.

Lewis, who also fronts FEMME FATALE, had already performed with VIXEN, having played with the group in March 2018 in Durant, Oklahoma while Gardner was recovering from surgery.

Prior to Lewis‘s addition to VIXEN, Petrucci, Denaro and Ross vowed to “expand upon the VIXEN legacy while remaining true to our musical roots.”

Gardner, who released her debut self-titled solo album in 2017, broke the news of her exit from the group on January 16.

Gardner, Petrucci and Ross are considered to be part of VIXEN‘s classic lineup, along with founding guitarist Jan Kuehnemund, who died of cancer in October 2013.

Gardner contributed lead vocals to VIXEN‘s most commercially successful studio albums — “Vixen” (1988), “Rev It Up” (1990) and “Tangerine” (1998) — as well as the group’s latest release, last year’s live album “Live Fire”.
