Will OZZY OSBOURNE Really Retire At End Of 'No More Tours 2'? STONE SOUR's ROY MAYORGA Weighs In

STONE SOUR drummer Roy Mayorga, whose band just spent a month on the road in support of Ozzy Osbourne‘s “No More Tours 2” tour, was asked in a new interview with the “If I Ruled The World” podcast if he thinks the BLACK SABBATH singer will really retire at the completion of the trek. He responded (hear audio below): “You know what? Maybe, but at the same time, he seems like the kind of person that’ll just keep doing it until he can’t, and that, to me, is cool. Like with THE [ROLLING] STONES — they’re still doing it. I just saw them a month and a half ago on a day off in Wales, and they were fucking incredible. I’d never seen THE STONES before. They opened up with ‘Street Fighting Man’, and my fucking jaw just dropped to the floor. And it was loud — it was loud as fuck, man. They’re, like, in their mid-70s killing it for, like, two hours, and Mick Jagger is just strutting up that catwalk like nobody’s business, sweating, fucking giving it. He still gives a shit — all of them do; they all love being up there. They don’t have to tour. And they still soundcheck. So everyone out there that bitches about fucking soundcheck, THE ROLLING STONES soundcheck for an hour, and then they go play a show for two hours — at 71 to 76 years old. It’s great.”

Mayorga went on to say that age is “just a number. If you can physically still do it, do it,” he said. “I’m going to. I’m gonna keep doing it till I can’t. I mean, I use [THE ROLLING STONES] as a gauge; I gauge off of them when to stop. How about that?”

STONE SOUR will take a break in 2019, which will allow for frontman Corey Taylor to record and tour with his other band, SLIPKNOT. It will also give Mayorga a chance to focus on his solo work. The drummer, who has done soundtracks for films, is putting together a synthesizer-driven album inspired by listening to bands such as TANGERINE DREAM and avant-garde musician Michael Hoenig.

“It’s going to be way different,” Mayorga told the Albuquerque Journal. “It’s more synthesizer driven. Some people know and some people don’t know analog modular synthesizer; I’ve been dabbling with that. Now I have a facility and time to do that.”

“No More Tours 2” is a reference to Ozzy‘s 1992 “No More Tours” trek, which marked the first time the singer announced the end of his days as a touring artist. The tour name was a pun based on the title of his then-most recent solo album, “No More Tears”. Ozzy returned to action three years later and has been on the road ever since.

STONE SOUR‘s latest album, “Hydrograd”, was released as a deluxe edition on August 31. The two-disc set, “Hydrograd Deluxe Edition”, collects unreleased covers, b-sides, live recordings and alternate versions of songs from “Hydrograd”.
