According to The Pulse Of Radio, a Florida woman used LINKIN PARK lyrics to help save a man’s life last week, reciting some words from the song “One More Light” to the suicidal man as she literally helped him off a ledge.
As first reported by Orlando’s WKMG-TV, healthcare worker Christina Settanni was driving along State Road 408 when she noticed the man sitting on the edge of an overpass. Fearing he would jump, she stopped her car and walked over to him. Sitting next to him, she recited a line from the song that went, “Who cares if one more light goes out? / In a sky of a million stars…Well, I do.”
Settani explained: “I stopped because I’ve been where he is. He needed someone to show they cared. I didn’t know if it clicked with him, but he just cried.”
The police arrived a short time later, with deputy Shaun Cayer saying that Settanni‘s assistance may have saved the man’s life. The man was not arrested, but he was taken to a mental health care facility.
“One More Light” is the title track of LINKIN PARK‘s seventh studio album, which arrived in May 2017. It was the last LINKIN PARK LP to feature singer Chester Bennington, who took his life two months after the LP was released.
In a 2013 interview with HardDrive Radio, Bennington advised kids who are having a tough time with life to avoid taking such a drastic step. “The thing about life is like, you can’t predict the future but the future’s there,” he said. “You just have to wait out. Life gets better, so don’t make those in-the-moment rash choices like suicide. Talk to your parents, you know, talk to the counselor at school. They’re there for you. They’re the people that are gonna care about you and they are gonna care about your feelings.”
