Ever since ZZ Top asked the Ben Miller Band to open their European tour last year, the rowdy roots rockers have become the Texas rock legends go-to support act, opening several of their tours both in the US and abroad, earning themselves standing ovations night after night. In the midst of their most recent North American tour together, SiriusXM’s Outlaw Country invited The Reverend Billy F. Gibbons and the Joplin, Mo.-based trio to NYC’s historic Electric Lady Studios for a performance and conversation.
Hosted by Gibbons, the one-hour special, debuting at 5 PM, EST this Saturday, April 4th with multiple airings all week long (see below for all air dates and times), includes a riveting and rollicking four-song set featuring the Ben Miller Band plowing through the Gibbons-requested “Hurry Up And Wait” from their New West Records debut, Any Way, Shape Or Form, and inspired- arrangements of traditional folksongs “Black Betty” and “St. James Infirmary” and Charley Patton’s “Tom Rushen Blues.” In the entertaining interview, Gibbons reveals what about the band first caught his attention, the band’s arsenal of unconventional handmade instruments (one-string washtub bass, washboard through a wah-wah pedal, etc.) and their first time meeting.
Ben Miller Band’s incredible “leave it all on the stage” live shows have caused numerous bands to seek them out as touring partners. Following the remaining dates with ZZ Top, they will reunite with their Southern rocker brethren, Blackberry Smoke, for the second leg of their tour together, covering much of the Midwest and South. This summer, they will head to Europe for a series of headline gigs and shows with ZZ Top that will take them through France, Germany, Switzerland, Holland, Ireland and England, which include a performance at the Cambridge Folk Festival on August 2nd.
